Howard Bergman, 84, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice in Ames, IA. A visitation for Howard will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm at Stratford Lutheran Church. A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Oakwood Cemetery.
Howard Edward Bergman was born on December 13, 1929 in Stratford, IA, the son of Carl and Florence (Anderson) Bergman. Ha attended Stratford Community School and was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church. He served his country in the US Army in Korea from 1951 to 1952. Howard married his wife, Doris Swanson, on March 2, 1951 in Boone, IA, and was engaged for most of his adult life in farming and plumbing. He enjoyed fishing, traveling to Branson, MO, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Howard is survived by his wife, Doris; a son, Brian (Carol) Bergman; a daughter, Kristi (Evan) Young; two grandchildren, Nicole Bergman and Ryan Young; one sister, Norma (Deany) Jacobsen; two brothers, Jerry Bergman and Ronald (Sue) Bergman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Bergman; and two sisters, Patty Peterson and Shirley Iles.
