Ruth Edith Berry

Ruth Edith Berry was born March 25, 1941. She passed away peacefully on February 1, 2014, at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tuscon, AZ, from complications after having open heart surgery. 

A celebration of her life will be held at the American Legion Hall in Neveda, IA, on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at 1 p.m.

Ruth grew up and attended school Ames. She spent many years as a homemaker. She managed Ruth and Marv’s at Lake Rathbun for a season and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ruth was also a cook for Phi Omega Sorority at ISU in Ames for four years. She was also very proud to have earned five college credits as a Homemaker Health Aide in 1982. 

Ruth married Marvin Berry on June 1, 1968, and together they raised six children. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, and bird watching. She was a lover of all animals, especially dogs, cats, and bald eagles. She was an honorary member of the ASPC as well as several other organizations. Ruth also enjoyed visiting family and friends and play cards. She was a member of the Lazy Daze Ranch community in Melrose, IA where she resided.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Marvin J. Berry; her step-son, Rick Berry; her step-parents Ed and Lottie Pierce; her mother, Gertrude Templeman; and her father, Forrest H Rhodes.

She’s survived by her son, Franklin D. Risdal of Melrose, IA; daughter, Vicki M. Street, of Tuscon, AZ; son Danny A. Risdal and wife, Sharon, of Maxwell, IA; daughter, Teresa (Terri) Miller and husband, Jerry, of Melrose, IA; daughter Valorie L Berry, of Ames, IA; eleven grandchildren and 13 great grand children; two sisters, Jean Woodson and husband Jim, of Wichita, KS; and Sue Zwagerman of Pheonix, AZ; two brothers, Frank (Dust) Rhodes of Golden Valley, AZ, and Paul (Bill) Pierce, Hamilton, IL.
