Kenneth Leo Dircks

Kenneth Leo Dircks, 58, died suddenly on February 15, 2014, at his home, of apparent heart complications.

Ken was born in Davenport, Iowa on March 29, 1955 the son of Robert L. Dircks and Miriam A. (Buster) Dircks.  He graduated from Columbus Community High School in Columbus Junction.  Following high school he became an independent insurance agent and assembled a team of about 25 agents, all of which he personally mentored and put on the road to success.  He changed each of these people’s lives for the better.  Ken won numerous sales awards over the years and qualified for trips to Hawaii, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, cruises, and many more by continually being in the top 5% nationally in sales.

Ken was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, particularly football and wrestling.

He is survived by his mother, Miriam Dircks of Columbus Junction; two sisters, Roberta Meeks (Jon McCright) of Cedar Rapids, and Deena (Kevin) Ollinger of Atkins.  He is also survived by two nephews, Travis (Emily) Lowe and Nicholas Meeks, and three nieces: Emily Meeks, Ashley Ollinger, and Chelsey Ollinger.  Ken also had two grand-nephews, Theodore and Miller Lowe.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dircks, his paternal grandparents, Leo Dircks and Minnie Dircks, and his maternal grandparents, Kenneth Buster and Myrle Buster.

A gathering of family and friends to honor Ken’s memory will be held at the American Legion in Columbus Junction on Saturday, February 22, 2014, beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to the family.
