Eldon Myers

Eldon Jay Myers, age 69, of Parkersburg, IA, was born the son of Thomas and Lillian (Arends) Myers on November 5, 1945 in Stout, IA. Eldon graduated from Dike High School in 1963.

On September 2, 1966, Eldon married Beverly Bolhuis at the Reformed Church of Stout. Early in their marriage, they lived in Colorado Springs, CO while Eldon proudly served in the US Army Honor Guard (1965-67). They then moved to Parkersburg where they lived the remainder of their married life. Through the years, Eldon worked as a machine operator at Titus Manufacturing, as a security guard at the University of Northern Iowa, as a meter reader for Iowa Public Service, and as a storeroom clerk for Mid-American Energy. He also worked part-time as a sheriff’s deputy for Butler County and as a police officer for the City of Parkersburg. Eldon was a member of Hope Reformed Church and American Legion Post 285.

Eldon loved his dog, Jake, going to coffee, and visiting with friends at local restaurants. He kept his cars impeccably clean and he was the guy people called when things needed to be fixed. Eldon’s hobbies included woodworking, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and traveling. Eldon also loved his grandchildren and was always there when they needed him. He enjoyed going to their school activities and sporting events.

Eldon died on Wednesday, December 24 at Covenant Medical Center, from natural causes.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leonard Myers; and step-father, Lawrence Paterni.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Beverly; one son, Randall (Joy) Myers and their children, Riley and Donovan, of Cottage Grove, MN; one daughter, Melissa (Brian) Benning and their children, Zac, Abby, and Molly, of Wellsburg, IA; siblings, Arlene (Jack) Beenken, Betty (Dave) Mulder, Daryl (Cathy) Myers, and sister-in-law, Susan Myers, all of Parkersburg; his mother-in-law, Irene Bolhuis of Parkersburg and sister-in-law, Brenda (Kim) Dix of Kesley; three step-sisters, JoLene (Jim) McDermott of Cedar Rapids, Pauline (Kenny) Lloyd of Union and Kaylene (Robert) Dilley of Webster City; and many nieces and nephews.
