Karen K. Poppe, 71, of Traer, formerly of Hudson, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

She was born January 25, 1943 in Waterloo, daughter of Charles W. and Lillian (Bahl) Fliss.  She graduated from Waterloo's West High School in 1961.  She married Gary L. Poppe on August 18, 1962 in Waterloo.  She and Gary lived in Hudson throughout their married lives.

Karen worked at Randall's Stop and Shop in Hudson, and later at the University of Northern Iowa for 27 years, retiring in 2007 from the Department of Residence.

Survived by: her husband; daughter Melissa of Davenport; two sons: Eddie (Linda) of Hudson and Bill of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren: Natalie, Spencer, Preston, and Caitlyn Poppe, all of Hudson; three brothers: Norbert Fliss (Mary Anne Reisinger) of Waterloo; Ron Fliss of Cedar Falls; Robert Fliss (Pam Trenkman) of Tucson, Arizona; Michael Fliss (Harriet) of Sterling, Illinois; two brothers-in-law: Gary Denny of North Richland Hills, Texas and Larry Poppe (Brenda) of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws Edward and Selma Poppe; two sisters: Jeri Denny and Mary Ann Fliss, in infancy; and a niece Terri Fliss Schall.

Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.  To respect Karen's wishes there will be no public wake.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Hudson, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family.  

Karen enjoyed collecting antiques, teddy bears, and baskets, as well as baking.  She was a lifelong Elvis fan.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren.
