John Warren Knapp

Dear Friends and Family of John Knapp: On behalf of the Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University, please accept my deepest sympathies and know that all of us back here in Ames are thinking of you during this difficult time. As you know, Mr. Knapp received his B.S. degree from my department, graduating way back in 1949. And after reading John's obituary, it sounds as if he put his education to very good use. I am glad John got his start at Iowa State College (University) and want to thank him and his family for his many contributions to the world of horticulture. I am so saddened to learn of the sudden passing of John. I met John and Anna several years ago. Anna and I shared the love of spinning wool. I loved my visits to the Knapp farm. John would always bring out his violin and play/sing a hymn at my departure. I witnessed his tender care of Anna as she suffered with cancer. He lovingly cared for her. I admired John for continuing to share his musical talent with others, for becoming a wonderful dancer and enjoying life to the fullest. He was such a wealth of information on music, nature and scripture. He was a man of great faith. He was truly a good, good man. I consider his a very special friend. I am honored to have been able to purchase Anna's beloved spinning wheel from John. I will always remember John and Anna Knapp. I am all the better person for knowing them. Linda Graves

I will miss my Uncle John very much; he was such a special man with a heart as big as the great outdoors. John was my fathers' brother-in-law (Aunt Anna was my fathers' sister) and Dad always said "John was the biggest man he'd ever met" - truer words were never spoken. Over the years, whenever I would visit Uncle John and Aunt Anna I always enjoyed when they'd take out their instruments and give me a private concert. He and Anna were my role models. On behalf of myself, my brother Tom Wilson, and my sister Mary Wilson, we'd like to send our condolences for our beloved Uncle John. Sandra J. (Wilson) Vitolo Las Vegas, NV

I was very sorry to hear about John. He and Anna became good friends to my folks and to Jerry and I. We thought the world of them, and enjoyed so many great musical memories.
