Donald L. Irey, 84, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Ravenwood Nursing Home in Waterloo. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 28 at 10:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 1555 W. Ridgeway, Waterloo, Iowa.
Donald Lester Irey was born on May 21, 1929 to Frank and Elsie Ladd Irey in Bottineau County, North Dakota. He proudly served in the US Air Force. Don was united in marriage to Elaine Greenfield on June 2, 1966 in Minot, North Dakota. He enjoyed making folk art, restoring antique cars, building hot rods, travelling, playing golf, dancing, and putsing around.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; children, Joan (Randy) Bailey of Minot ND; Al (Renee) Irey of Ogden; and Gil (Kris) Irey of Waterloo; grandchildren, Shawn (Ashley) Bailey, Nicole Robinson, Brandon (Alisha) Bailey, Jamee (Derek) Bohlen, Jake (Shannyn) Irey and 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Leo Irey, David Irey, Tom Irey, and Leona Kuhn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, 1 brother, and a grandson, Mike Robinson.
Memorial donations may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
