Jerome Shimek

Jerome Shimek, 87, Spillville passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Cresco Care Center. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville, Iowa. Jerome was the son of William, Sr. and Agnes Shimek born on June 27, 1926 on the family farm rural Calmar. He was united in marriage to Lucille Funke on October 29, 1946 at St. Francis De Sales Church in Ossian, Iowa. Jerome enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a good storyteller. He liked listening to polka musical and bird watching. Jerome was an Army veteran and worked as County Road Maintenance until retirement. Jerome is survived by his children: Francis (Noi) Shimek of Rosemond, CA; Barb (Leo) Massman of Waverly; Ed (Julie) Shimek of Spillville; Mary Lou (Don) Lensing and Judy (CJ) Lensing both of Decorah; Ronnie (Connie) Shimek of Nora Springs; Rick and Stan (Janean) Shimek both of Calmar; Mark Shimek of Spillville; Gary (Chris) Shimek of Calmar; Kenny (Cathy) Shimek of Ft. Atkinson. Also surviving is Jerome''s son-in-law, Leon Einck of Decorah; 32 grandchildren; and 55 great grandchildren; his sister, Lorraine (Vince) Williams of Kansas City, MO; and brother, Bill (Jayne) Shimek of Ossian; his sister-in-law, Margaret Hageman of Calmar; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, on April 21, 2010; his daughter, Nancy Einck on September 18, 2009; his grandson, Evan Shimek; 2 great grandchildren, Trevor Massman and Bria Sahr; his brother, Arnold Shimek; his sister, Marian Bothmer; his niece, Clydene Miller; his nephew, Charles Hageman; and brothers-in-law, Carl Hageman and Clyde Bothmer.
