Richard L. Williams, 82, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be this Tuesday, May 7th, 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 5th Street SE, Cedar Rapids.
Dick was born on June 26, 1930 in Waterloo, the son of Louis and Bernice Williams. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict, graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Marketing, and on June 30, 1956, married Kaye Groenewold, of Sibley, Iowa. He began his career in Cedar Rapids with Collins Radio and then job opportunities took him to Dallas and Los Angeles. He retired in Sacramento and then returned years later with Kaye to his hometown of Cedar Rapids. Dick''s hobbies included mountaineering, tennis, reading, crossword puzzles, painting and drawing. He served as a church deacon in both Sacramento, CA and Cedar Rapids, IA. He also enjoyed membership in the Optimist Club and volunteering in the AARP Income Tax Assistance Program.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Pam Stearns (Dennis) and children, Angela and Bailey of Greensboro, NC; his daughter, Kim Downs (David) and children, Elyse and Sally, of Farmer''s Branch, TX; Betsi Krivo (Gary) and children, Suzanne Andre'', Ryan Andre'' and Chase Krivo of New Canaan, CT; his daughter Jennifer Grossfeld and children, Brett, Zachary and Trenton of Folsom, CA; his sister, JoAnne Grissel (Jim) of Ft. Worth, TX, and Barbara Rosenberg (John) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Williams; nephew, Andy Williams; sister, Shirley Henyan, and son-in-law, Ken Grossfeld.
During his life, he coached and encouraged his daughters and others in various sports. Should you choose to make a donation, it may be made in Richard''s name to the First Presbyterian Church of Cedar Rapids "Youth Activities". He will be fondly be remembered by all.
Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
