Thomas A. Geater

Thomas Alvin Geater, age 75, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Keystone Care Center, Keystone, IA after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at Salem United Methodist Church, Van Horne on Saturday, March 9 at 10:00 a.m. including Masonic and Military Rites. The family will meet friends and family one hour prior to the service. Tom was born May 29, 1937 to Burle and Margery Stiles Geater in Vinton. He graduated from Washington High School, Vinton in 1955. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the US Navy for 4 years. On February 22, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Noeller in Vinton. He worked for Joyce Lumber, Vinton, IA, Fullerton Lumber, Van Horne, IA and LaPorte City Lumber until his retirement. He was a member of the Lincoln Lodge #199 in Blairstown, IA and most recently Ascalon Lodge #393, Dysart, IA as well as the El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was also a member of the Thomas F. Bevins American Legion Post #148, Van Horne and various other community organizations. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially with his son and grandson with trips to Pepin, WI and Arkansas. Survivors include his children, Michael (Meg) Geater of Van Horne and Christine (John) Robson of Atkins; grandchildren, Clint Geater, Cassie (Jeff) Huber, Catie (Zach) Reynolds, Zachary (Hannah) Robson, and Danielle Robson; great grandchildren Calvin and Caleb Huber; Justess, Braedyn and Alannah Reynolds; Baby Boy Robson due in April; sister-in-law Carolyn (Ron) Smalley of Vinton; and brother-in-law James (Beth) Noeller of Iowa City; Uncle Donald Stiles of Waterloo, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother-in-law Donald Noeller. Memorial donations may be directed to St Luke''s Hospice, Salem United Methodist Church, Van Horne or Keystone Care Center, Keystone. The family would like to thank St. Luke''s Hospice, especially nurses Erin Williams & Suzanne Cox, as well as the entire staff of the Keystone Care Center for their excellent care of Tom.
