Richard H. Bahwell
I felt blessed to have Dick as a colleague for the last 17 years of his career at Coe College. He was a welcoming and generous colleague and a kind and understanding friend. He was a very rigorous and demanding teacher whom students respected and admired. He played a key role in launching Foundation Two, and the network of social services that it provides in Cedar Rapids today is a legacy of which he was very proud. He also served as the college psychologist at Coe for many years, and his skill and compassion as a counselor helped to save many students' lives. I count myself blessed to have been a colleague of Dick's at Coe College for the last 17 years of his career. He was a warm, generous friend and an excellent counselor, with a lively sense of humor. While he was the college psychologist at Coe, his skill and compassion saved the life of many a student. And he was justifiably proud of his key role in launching Foundation Two more than forty years ago. Richard Bahwell was a fine scholar and a fine human being. During my years teaching at Coe I valued having him as a colleague. After his retirement and when he moved to Cottage Grove Place, I saw him on several occasions. I last visited him in 2012 and he invited me to his apartment for a drink and a chat. My deepest sympathies to his son David, the other members of his family, and all those who knew and admired him.
I had the great pleasure of working with Dr. Bahwell when he served on the board of directors for Foundation 2. He provided great leadership and compassion to our mission of helping people in crisis.
