Wm. "Gene" Flannagan

William Eugene "Gene" Flannagan, 78, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Friday, January 18 at his home. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Gene was born on November 4, 1934 to Daniel and Dorothy Hogg Flannagan in Delaware County, Iowa. He graduated from Buck Creek High School in 1952. Gene was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Gifford on September 23, 1956 in Manchester, Iowa. She passed away on April 30, 2012. He farmed with his father and uncle, and worked in maintenance until his retirement. He is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Andy) Monaghan of Winthrop and Jeanie (Robert) Craggs of Novinger, Missouri; son, Ron (Becky) Flannagan of O''Fallon, Missouri; grandchildren, Kelle (Bryan) Frederick, Cody (Kerrin) Monaghan, Lori (Aaron) Simon, Brandy (Tyler Hepler) Craggs, Faith Flannagan, Katelynn Craggs, Ben Flannagan; great-grandchildren, Kendra Frederick, Kassandra Frederick, Kelsey Frederick, Caleb Monaghan, and a great grandchild due in June. He is also survived by sisters, JoAnn Mesch of Hiawatha and Diana (Don Sickles) Ross of Manchester; brother, Danny Flannagan of Manchester; sisters-in-law, Virginia Flannagan of Marion, Bonnie Roberts of Three Rivers, Michigan; and Sandy Kent of Manchester; brother-in-law, Tom Gifford of Winthrop; and his 2 cats, Smokey and Psycho. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents; brother, Glenn Flannagan; sister, Judy Flannagan; mother-in-law, Inez Barone and father-in-law, Elmer Gifford; and stepfather-in-law, Harold Barone; brothers-in-law, Harry Kent; and Larry Roberts; sisters-in-law, Kay Gifford; nieces, Kimberly Gifford and Kelly Roberts and nephew, Glenn Flannagan Jr.
