Ryan E. Schmidt, 56, of Belle Plaine died Monday December 30, 2013 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday at Koszta Boones Backwater Bar, 1463 126th Street in Marengo. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Jaida (Casey) Schupp and Sam (Joshua) Perez all of Cedar Rapids, Tara, Alicia, and Bryce Buckley, and Elias Ehlen; his parents Erven and Vernetta Schmidt of Buffalo, Minnesota; two brothers Gary (Carrie) of Cedar Rapids, and Allen (Pam) of Thornton, Colorado, a sister Wanda (Fred) Hopkins of Buffalo, Minnesota; seven grandchildren Baelee, Jordan, Julius, Gavin, Jazmynn, Zander and Quentin; his significant other Karla Ehlen of Belle Plaine and his best friend Roxanne(Denny) Hoover of Lisbon.
Ryan was born on October 15, 1957 in Hanover, Minnesota. He was a self employed contractor for several years and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed playing pool and was a member of several pool leagues. Ryan also enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping and time spent with his beloved family and many friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
