Edward J. Folken

Edward J. Folken, 92, of Anamosa died Wednesday October 31, 2012 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa at 7:00 PM on Monday where there will be a visitation from 5:30 PM until service time. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife Rosemary; 4 sons Denny (Lisa) of Monticello, Don (Judy) of Dubuque, Gary of Monticello and Dave (Choi) of Indian Trail, North Carolina; a daughter Vicki Wacker of Anamosa; 2 sisters Deloris Ihlenfelt and Marilyn Schmidt both of Anamosa and one brother Louis (Beulah) also of Anamosa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Cade, Paige, Kyle, Cole, Andrew, Jessie, Joey (Heather), John, Ed, Kelly (Jeremiah), and Kris (Brittany); and 7 great grandchildren Natilie, Jeremy, J.D., Hailey, John John, Jack and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Henry and Don. Ed was born on January 24, 1920 in Jones County, the son of John and Margaret Albers Folken. He married Rosemary L. Newhard on August 30, 1955 in Vilmar, Iowa. Ed farmed in the Jones County area and worked at Century Engineering as a welder retiring after 15 years of service in 1985. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, and proudly served in the Navy during WWII. He enjoyed camping, fishing, travel and especially the time he spent with his friends and beloved family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who''s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. A memorial fund has been established.
