Richard M. Bolin, 72, of Mason City, died on March 17, 2012 at Hospice of North Iowa following an extended illness. A gathering to celebrate Richard''s life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the VFW Post # 733, 1603 South Monroe Avenue, Mason City. Arrangements entrusted to Iowa Cremation. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Shirley; his children, Monica Bolin (Ron) of Lincoln, NE, Derek Bolin of California, Robert Hoyt (Melody) of Eckleson, ND and Timothy Hoyt (Carissa) of New Hope, MN; his grandchildren, Zakary, Kyah, Tryston, Ashley and Nicholas; his siblings, David Bolin of Burnsville, MN and Natalie Bolin of Minnesota; and close family friends, Stephanie Gorder (Mark) and their family of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry and a sister, Joy. Richard Michael Bolin was born January 2, 1940 in North St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Alton and Grace Bolin. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Shirley on December 31, 1981 in St. Paul, MN. He was employed in the automotive financial and insurance industry for over 50 years, retiring in 1989. Richard enjoyed his membership and close friends at the VFW Post #733. Richard loved working in his yard and his home. He often helped his neighbors and friends with yard work and was often found mowing other''s lawn''s with his lawn tractor. He also enjoyed making birdhouses and airplanes. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was time spent with his beloved family. He will be greatly missed.
