Nile C. Roszell, Sr., 88, of West Liberty, passed away surrounded by his family on March 7, 2012 in his home. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Iowa Cremation. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mable; his children; Nile (Karen) Roszell, Jr. of West Liberty; Kristeen (Ken) Hubler of Conway, AR, Rick (Haydee) Roszell of New Boston, IL, Donna (Ken) Ervin of Atalissa, Sue (Rick) Maurer of West Liberty, Jo (Emanuel) Moreira DaSilva of Port St. Lucie, FL and Lynn Conard of Muscatine; 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; and his sisters, Clara Levendusky of Waterloo and Marilyn Ealy of Morrisville, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents Judd and Isabelle Roszell; his brothers, Dale, Lyle, Wayne, Harold and Boyd; and his sisters, Helen Riggle and Marietta and Alice Mae Roszell. Nile was born September 24, 1923 in Bemidji, Minnesota. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1941. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and served honorably as a cryptographer while stationed in Cincinnati, OH and Nashville, TN during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mable J. Clark on January 11, 1944 in Newport, Kentucky. He farmed in West Branch and worked for Schriber Mills in Hills for many years. He then worked for Rohner Machine in West Liberty for 14 years before his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post # 509. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, son-in-laws and grandsons. He will be greatly missed.
