Maurice L. Alderman

Maurice L. Alderman, 89, passes away Friday, March 30, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer. He was born December 29, 1922, in Winthrop, IA, son of Earl and Emma Hansen Alderman. He married Arda Alderman on April 5th, 1942, at Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo. She passed away on February 26, 2010. He graduated from West High School in 1941 and served in the Solomon Islands during WWII as a SSgt. in the Army. He began working as a machinist at CMC and retired in 1986 as general manager of Construction Machinery Company. He was an active member of the community: he served on the Cedar Falls city council and, from 1971 to 1991, he served on the Cedar Falls Utilities Board of Trustees. He was an active member of the Valley View Baptist Church. Survived by two daughters, Linda (Roger) Benning of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Janna (John) Thierman of Waterloo: two sons, Daniel (Jackie) of Higgens Lake, MI, and Kevin (Roxanne) of Urbandale; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth, and a sister, Helen Pearce. Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gerald; and a sister, Wilma Alvin. A memorial service will be held on April 21 at 11 AM in the Western Home Chapel at 420 E. 11th Street in Cedar Falls. Memorial may be directed to the Western Home Foundation or Cedar Valley Hospice.
