Hal "Hal" Friedman
Harold "Hal" Friedman died on March 6, 2012 at Klein Center in Burlington. Hal was born on September 3, 1932 in Chicago; he was the son of Henrietta (Tetcotzky) and Philip Friedman. He married and divorced twice before marrying Pat Feldman on July 13, 1996 in Burlington. Mr. Friedman was a registered professional engineer who worked in engineering capacities in control development, design and power and distribution systems for such facilities, in part, as U.S. Gypsum, FAA, Airport Emergency Power Systems Training Center, Midway Airport Runway Lighting, US Steel, Westinghouse and Lever Brothers. His work also included missile facilities and nuclear reactor plants. He owned and operated Control Center Co. in Chicago specializing in automation, control and power.
Hal attended the University of Illinois, the University of Chicago and N.E. Illinois University and was a registered engineer in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. Hal also attended the Graphic Arts Institute in Chicago.
Mr. Friedman enjoyed concerts, bicycling, photography, working on projects in his workshop and nature and music programs at Starrs Cave Center. He was an avid music collector with an extensive collection of classics, folk music and gospel. He was a past member of Council on Foreign Affairs, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Japan-American Society and Story Hollow Hideaway Klein Center.
Hal is survived by his wife Pat Friedman of Burlington; one daughter, Miko of San Francisco, CA; 3 sons, Joshua of Madison, WI, Jeffrey of Springfield, IL, Gary of Ventura, CA; and one sister, Maxine Gaines of Las Vegas. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday March 15, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Klein Center in Burlington, Iowa with Pastor David Plooster officiating.
Memorials are established for S.E. Iowa Symphony Orchestra, Iowa Public T.V. and the Congregational Church.
