He married Sandra Lea Hahn on September 6, 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Carl worked at Amana Refrigeration from 1966 until his retirement in 1995. Carl enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved to cook and bake pies for them. He also loved getting together over Christmas to make candy, especially peanut brittle, and rum cake. Carl taught his children all about the art of hunting and fishing. He hunted for deer and turkey. He had a very kind nature and befriended a young man, Quinten Guillum, whom he considered a grandchild. The first Saturday of the month, his siblings met for breakfast in Wellman and the chatter became quite loud at times. The family would like to send their special thanks to the staff at the University Hospitals they met, Dr. Bergus, and Dr. Shivapour. They would also like to thank Iowa City Hospice, who were angels in helping them through this difficult time. Memorial contributions can be donated in Carl''s name to Iowa City Hospice.
