Johnnie Grover Shimer, 74, of Blockton, passed away on January 13, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 11 AM at the Blockton Community Center. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Johnnie was born on February 4, 1937 in Creston, Iowa to John A. and Mimi (Chandler) Shimer. Johnnie married Lula Whipple on August 8, 1969 and served in the Army and Navy Reserve units for 31 years and 7 days.
He is survived by his wife Lula Shimer; Daughters; Cynthia Roach, Sandra Thourburn, Angela Shimer, Marcie Page and Julie Wall; 8 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister.
