Obituary for John Edward Ensminger

John Edward Ensminger, 73, of Mediapolis, Iowa, died February 24, 2012. He was born in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on December 9, 1938. He was the son of Homer Ensminger and Sarah Dougherty. John graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and was previously married to Carol Walgren. He retired in 2007 after co-owning and operating the Wapello Valley Meat Locker and Wapello Foods grocery store for over three decades after beginning his career at Walgren''s Foods in Mt. Pleasant in 1959. John was a member of the Iowa National Guard for sixteen years. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Iowa Hawkeyes. John spent many years coaching his sons, officiating, and watching Mediapolis athletics. John was survived by three children: Mathew (Sara), Patrick (Nicki), and Michael (Kristan) as well as ten grandchildren. Per John''s wishes there will be no funeral or visitation. Cremation has been accorded. His sons have decided to celebrate his life with a gathering at Mediapolis City Hall on March 7th from 5-7. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Mediapolis High School Athletic Department or Mediapolis Youth League.
