Phyllis Jean Amthauer

Phyllis Jean Amthauer, 79, of Manchester, died at home Saturday, December 29, 2012. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Phyllis was born November 4, 1933 in Edgewood, Iowa to Glen (Jake) and Jessie Morley Smock. She married Loren (Gene) Amthauer on September 8, 1951 in Edgewood, Iowa. Survivors include five children, Tom (Michelle Letts) of Strawberry Point, Stephen (Jolene) of Delhi, Pixie Cole of Edgewood, Michele "Mick" (Jon Klein) of Dundee and Toni (Jim Lewis) of Manchester, Iowa, a foster daughter Sandy Davis of Quasqueton, former son-in-law Loren Hadenfeldt, one brother Glen Junior Smock of Dubuque, two sister-in-laws Mary Fisher of Marion and Linda Smock of Greeley, 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Loren on September 25, 2012, her parents Jake and Jessie Smock, a grandson Jason Amthauer and one brother Richard Smock. Phyllis owned the Elite Cafe and later worked as a waitress at Hazels Cafe until retirement. Phyllis will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We would like to thank her doctor and all the Hospice nurses for their kind care.
