Vernon L. Kitzman

Vernon L. Kitzman was born September 1, 1923 to Edward and Bernice Allen Kitzman near Sigourney, Iowa. After graduating from High School at Thornburg in 1943, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines and Korea during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Vernon married Betty Adams in 1947, they were divorced. To this union was born three children. Vernon is survived by his daughter, Steve and Jeannie Bos; sons, Jimmie Kitzman and Steve Simpson; Danny and Kristy Kitzman; four grandchildren, Stephani and Rob Bonner; Jeremy Bos; Nathan and Amy Kitzman; Samara Teeter ; four great-grandchildren, Attie and Alanna Teeter; Ryan Bonner; Aathan Kitzman: sisters, Dorothy Adams and Darlene Kirby. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Bernice; an infant son; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Mary Kitzman; brother-in-laws, Marvin Kirby and Floyd Adams; sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Bob Malin. Vernon enjoyed life, especially the grandkids and the "greats." The children loved their time with him and he made sure to make each one feel ''special.'' He walked a million miles with those kids as babies. Vernon was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes. He lived in and around What Cheer for most of his life. In 2010 he began a new life at Manor House in Sigourney, where he gained many new friendships. Vernon passed away peacefully on April 22, 2012 at the age of eighty-eight. Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in What Cheer on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 12-1 pm with Memorial Service at 1:00. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery in Thornburg and then a return to the church.
