Phillip "Pid" Hambright

Phillip E. "Pid" Hambright, 87, of Bennett, Iowa passed away on November 21, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City. Per Phillip''s wishes his body will be cremated. No services are scheduled at this time. Phillip is survived by his wife Darlene, children, Holly (Tim) Howell of New Liberty, IA, and Phillip E. (Vicky) Hambright II of Wilton, IA; grandchildren Jeffrey and Jaime VeDepo; great grandchildren Chelsea VeDepo and Isaiah Galvan; and his brother Rhea (Skip) Hambright of Davenport, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Edith Hambright, a great grandson Elijah VeDepo, and 3 brothers Robert, Richard, and Roland Hambright. Phillip Eugene Hambright was born October 23, 1924 to Paul and Edith (Tracht) Hambright in Bennett, Iowa. He graduated from Bennett Community Schools. Phillip was a veteran of the United States Marines servicing during World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He married Darlene Mae Gaul on October 7, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church, Tipton, IA. Phillip owned and operated Pid''s Midway Service Station in Bennett for 18 years and later retired from Caterpillar in Mount Joy after 10 years of employment. Phillip was a member of the Bennett Peace Church, Bennett American Legion, and the Bettendorf Gung-Ho Gang. He enjoyed cooking, performing stand up comedy, and spending time with family and friends. He was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
