Geraldine "Geri" (Knudson) Becker

Geraldine Becker, 67, of 3167 62nd Street Trail, Shellsburg, IA formerly of Harpers Ferry and Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after an extended illness. Services will be held 10 A.M. Monday, May 23rd at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Fr. Mark Reasoner will officiate. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at St. Jude Catholic Church, where there will be a vigil service at 5:30. Survivors include her loving husband, Daniel; two daughters Carla (Paul) Depcik of Fox Lake, ILL and Donna (Ken) Charipar of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Loren (Julie) Becker of Shellsburg, Lori (Howard) Belgarde of Winterset, Rich (Peggy) Becker of Shellsburg and Lisa (Dean) Roth of Lexington, Oklahoma. Also surviving are grandchildren Nathan, Kendrew and Randy Depcik; Bryce, Brant and Briona Charipar, step-grandchildren Nichole (John) McKenna, Melissa (Cliff) Hendrix and Angela Becker, Dustin (Savannah) Belgarde and Travis (finance Jill) Belgarde. Brandon (Tara) Hugenel, Ryan and Ashley Hugenel, Luke and Jered Sylvester. Great grand-children Clayton, William and Abigail McKenna. Wyitt and Ava Belgarde, Hannah and Ellie Hugenel . She is also survived by three sisters, Blanche (Carroll) Schult, Karen Pint, and Harriet (Aulden) Tegtmeier. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother James, one infant daughter (Peggy Sue), and a brother-in-law (Delbert). Geraldine was born on November. 21, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Bernice and Harry Knudson. She married Daniel Becker on October 3rd, 1980 in Cedar Rapids. Geraldine worked in the health care field and spent several years at Mercy Hallmar for 25 years. Most recently she worked for Thornton Manner in Lansing until her retirement. Geraldine was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy. Geri was a very giving person. Someone once said “If she only had 25 cents she would give you 50 cents”. Besides family it was her passion to serve the elderly. Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy or St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Geraldine''s name.
