William Miller

William Lee "Bill" Miller was born on July 28, 1938 in Vandalia, Iowa. He was the second of four children born to Harold Josiah and Ruby Grace (Squire) Miller. He attended school in a one-room school house in Vandalia. As a teenager and young adult he worked on farms in the area and as a welder for Dowden Manufacturing. After moving to Des Moines, he worked as a mechanic and as a Ready Mix truck driver. In 1969 he moved into the house on the east side of Des Moines that would be his home the rest of his life. After retirement Bill stayed busy mowing yards, working on cars and lawn tractors and just lending a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. Bill went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2011 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Left to cherish Bill''s memory are his son Larry Miller of Des Moines; daughter Teresa Miller of Ankeny; sisters Marilyn (Carroll) Nolin of Prairie City and Diane (Bart) Huetter of Monroe; an uncle C. Wayne Miller of Newton; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. His body was cremated, with burial of cremains at Vandalia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Taylor House.
