Obituary for Martha Viginia Allison

Martha Allison, 81, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of South Carolina, died at Heritage Nursing and Rehab, Sunday, July 24, 2011. Services will be held in South Carolina at a later date. Iowa Cremation in charge of arrangements. Martha is survived by children, Joy (Bob) Cummings of Cedar Rapids, Lana (Skip) Portale and Brian Allison, both of New Jersey, Bennett (Nora) Allison of Delaware, and Brent Allison of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Janet, Allison, Bennett Jr., Michael, Brent Jr., and Briana; several great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters, Norma and Patty; and her good friend, Anne. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 63 years, B.F. Allison in 2009. Martha was born December 24, 1929 in Milldgeville, Georgia to George and Louise Little. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Damon Martin. Martha married B.F. Allison in Blacksburg, SC on April 20, 1946. She was an excellent cook and a seamstress, making clothes for her children. She and her husband traveled with the military to several countries. She worked in retail and did bookkeeping for several businesses. She loved to read, especially mysteries. Martha loved her cats and music boxes.
