Richard DuVall Johnson

Richard DuVall Johnson, 84, of Moravia, IA passed away January 28, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, with his family by his side. Per Richards wishes his body has been cremated with no funeral services. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 1st, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, with a reception following at the Moravia Community Center from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Richard was born May 20, 1926 in Monroe County Iowa the son of John and Mary (DuVall) Johnson. He graduated from Moravia High School in 1943 and from the Police Academy in 1970. Richard married Helen Marie Taylor on May 23, 1948 in Moravia at the United Brethren Church. He was a self employed farmer and a deputy sheriff for Appanoose County Iowa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the KAABA Shrine Temple. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, and spending time with his family. Left to cherish Richard’s memory include his wife of 62 years Helen, children Mary (Bob) Otis of Coleman, MI, Richard (Pam) Johnson and John (Sherry) Johnson both of Moravia; grandchildren Scott (Julie) Johnson, Andrea (Shawn) Waterman, Christina (Nathan) Clarke, Jeffrey Johnson, and Erica Otis; and great grandchildren Logan, Dylan Rose and Charlie Belle Johnson, Adam and Maggie Clarke, and Cael and Gavin Waterman. Preceding Richard in death were his parents John and Mary Johnson; brother John William Johnson; sister Ruth Schultz; and grandchildren Amy and Dale Johnson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Richard’s name.
