Obituary for Larry Lee Winkey

Larry Winkey, 77, of Waverly, died Thursday, September 23, 2010 at his home. Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10:30 am at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Readlyn, Iowa. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family with arrangements. Larry was born on June 2, 1933 to Harry and Myrtle Pohl Winkey in Waverly. He was united in marriage to Arlene Schmadeke on June 8, 1952 in Clarksville, Iowa. He worked for Koehring in Waverly for 37 years, and later retired from Schumacher Elevator in Denver, Ia. Larry enjoyed spending time at his cabin, fishing, and lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He loved being with his family and friends, and telling stories to anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (Roger) Capper of Clarksville; son, Mitchell Winkey of Janesville; grandchildren, Sonia (Don) Eggleston of Plainfield; Dustin Avery of Rock Island, IL; Arron Winkey of New Hartford; and Melissa Winkey of Waterloo; great grandchildren, Jacob and Dylan Eggleston; Isaac, Jeremiah, and Brooklyn Avery; Jordan Winkey, Emmanuel Mehdeh, and Masyn Mummelthie; and sister, Sherry (Robert) Litterer of Clarksville. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene in January 2010, and by his parents.
