William Glasgow

Wm (Bill) Carl Glasgow, 80, of Fort Madison, died November 27, 2010, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, after a long battle with COPD. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Fort Madison Health Center, 1702 41st Street, with military graveside rites to be held at a later date. Surviving to honor his memory are his siblings, Ken Glasgow of Clearwater, FL and Dorothy Bellamy of Fort Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Blanche (Arend) Glasgow, and a brother, Bob Glasgow. Bill was born January 26, 1930 in Keokuk, IA. He attended Keokuk schools where he excelled in music and was asked in 1943, at the age of 13, to join the Keokuk City Band for his ability to play the double bell euphonium. Bill joined the Army at the age of 17 and served our country as a member of the Five and Drum unit in Berlin, Germany. He later attended Bradley University in Peoria Illinois where he studied watch making. Bill later joined the active duty reserve for the Navy from 1964 to 1968. He then took a position as a police officer in Norfolk, VA. After his retirement from the police force he became a Christian missionary located in Nigeria. In his retirement he cared for his sister Dorothy and last resided at the Fort Madison Health Center where he was a good friend to all with a joke and a friendly smile.
