Patricia Ann Blecher, 63, of Lansing, IA, formerly of West Des Moines, died Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Thornton Manor, Lansing, following a lengthy illness. Memorial service: 2:30 pm Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment will precede the memorial service at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is assisting the family. Survivors include her sister, Jane Hasek (Wayne) of Harpers Ferry, IA; brother, John Blecher (Kathy) of Colorado Springs, CO; Also surviving are 3 nieces, Susan Randall, Kim Parker and Kelly Haag; 7 nephews, Mark Hasek, Matthew McCoy, Michael McCoy, Korey Blecher, Jarod Blecher, Johnny Blecher and Simon Blecher; 13 great nieces and 9 great nephews which were all special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Karen McCoy. Patricia Ann Blecher was born January 7, 1947 in Norfolk, NE the daughter of Harold & Margaret (Kennedy) Blecher. She graduated from Valley High School, West Des Moines in 1965, Northeast Missouri State College in 1969, and her Masters degree in Special Education from the University of Missouri, St. Louis in 1980. Patty had previously worked as a teacher in the St. Louis Missouri Public School System from 1971-1991 and then the Des Moines Public School District as a special education teacher from 1991 to 2006. She was a member of the Ankeny First United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter LJ, Rainbow for Girls, Alpha Delta Kappa International Honor Society for Women Educators and the Iowa Beta Chapter. Patty enjoyed traveling, reading, children’s books and activities and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Memorials may be sent in her name to, 701 N. 1st St., P.O. Box 262, Harpers Ferry, IA 52146 for a Special Education project. A special thank you to her friend’s in teaching and her church.
