Donald R. Arnold of Stanley, Iowa died on May 11, 2010 following a brief illness. A remembrance gathering is planned for Friday, May 14, 2010 at the American Legion Hall in Oelwein, Iowa from 3-7 pm. He was born June 21, 1941 in Savanna, Illinois to Donald Abraham Arnold and Laurel Lappe. Don attended and graduated from high school in Savanna, Illinois. He is fondly remembered by some as a rebel of sorts where he grew up along the Mississippi River. Don worked as a truck driver for Atwood and also Hancore. For the past ten years he worked as an attendant for the Mississippi Palisades State Park in Savanna, Illinois. Don met his wife, Phyllis, at Atwood and they were later married on December 24, 1997. He will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Donald (Heather) Arnold of Hazelton, IA, and Kevin (Deb) Arnold of Miles, IA; two daughters, Gail (Steve) Boies of Readlyn, IA, and Carol (Mike) Schulmeister of Stanley, IA; three stepsons, Rick Robbins of Hazelton, Don (Bev) Robbins of Oelwein, IA, and Cory (Tracy) Robbins of Grandville, IL; three brothers, Tim Olson of Onalaska, WI, Terry Olson of Hulma, LA, and Mike Olson of Savanna, IL; 26 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
