Pete Countryman

Pete (Ward Dale) Countryman died March 7, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas of a heart attack. Pete was born April 30, 1934, the third son to Joseph Donald Countryman and Gunda Otilla (Omit) Countryman in Nibish, Minnesota. Within hours after his birth he was given his nickname " Pete" after a famous song "tickle my feet with Piccolo Pete." He spent the first eight years of his life in northern Minnesota. The family moved to Earlham, Iowa, and where Pete went to school, and was a standout in football and track and field. He married Audrey Diane Harsh, June 12, 1954, the love of his life. He opened and operated Pete''s Body Shop in Adel, for approximately twenty years. He was always ready to help anyone who needed it and took great joy in being a Scout Master for a boy scout troupe in Adel , being a volunteer Fireman, and working as a track official for the Tigerette Relays, to name a few. He spent two years in the army serving as a depot manager, during the Korean War. Later in life he rejoined the Army National Guard at Camp Dodge and utilized his skills as a master welder repairing army vehicles and training other men in these skills. He continued to work on cars & create stained glass masterpieces for family and friends and dance with his wife. His legacy lives on in his family and his friends. His mother, Gunda, his father, Joe, and his older brother Harry precede him in death. He is survived by his brother Wayne Countryman of Redfield, wife Audrey Diane (Harsh) Countryman, his three daughters, Kim Countryman of Adel, Lyn Countryman (Bob Huber) of Cedar Falls, and Kelly Countryman of Adel, his six grandchildren, Bob Countryman (Angie), Aubrey & Katy Huber, and J.
