Thanks Louie for sharing your incredible gift. Indirectly, you are the reason I own a collection of Gibson electric guitars. Also thanks for teaching others like Mcmurrin and DeWitte, who carry on your tradition.

Louie was an original and one of the very best. He was a musicians musician.I remember my first guitar lesson with him at Keeneys Guitar Studio. That day started me off on a new journey that would eventually have me teaching at Keeneys and playing in bands for the next twenty something years. To this day I can not pick up or even look at a guitar and not think of Louie Carr and his Magic Guitar!

Dear Louie - such a friend and so many memories - not just the music which we all remember (including his membership in the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!) What a wonderful honor. Farewell Louie Carr... a guitar legend! Louie took me away from plunking through the Mel Bay beginner books at Boddicker's and on to actually PLAYING guitar using his fabulous technique and showmanship. I got the opportunity to jam with him once 20+ years ago at some forgettable small club in C.R... but I will never forget the night. Thanks Louie... I still enjoy playing today because of teachers like you! And thanks for your service to your country!

To Judy and Louie's family you have my sympathy. I'm not one who can say he knew Louie well or for very long. But the few ocaasions I was able to perform with him at Gilligan's were a joy. And to have backed his Malaguana on drums as a duo was a complete honor. Thanks Louie!

Louie: "What do you get when the zoo burns down?" Me: "I don't know, Louie, what?" Louie: "Crispy Critters" ...this exchange took place every week (my lesson with Louie at Boddickers) for what might have been a year. I laughed every time and still smile thinking about it. Those of you who were close to him are a lucky bunch.

Don't forget Louie's Trademark - "MALAGUENA". I was stunned to find it had words years later. Another of his specialties, were his "joke" songs of Nuts And Liquors, always favorites of the Bars. He also loved his 1963 Gibson Trini Lopez model. One of the nice things about Louie, was his light touch. He never needed new nickel for the frets. He was one of the first in the area, to Dress his Band nicely. His excelled with his Carpenter work, owning his own business for a few years. There was no other like Him.

To the family of Louie. I became friends of Louie back in the '60's when he taught at Keeney's. I remember the first time I ever heard him play. It was Dave Brubeck's "Take Five". Only him, a bass player & a drummer. What a vantastic job and what a musician he was! Ironically, since I hadn't seen or talked with him for a few years, about a week ago I thought about him and wondered how he was doing these days. I am truly sorry to hear of his passing. The world has lost another "good guy" for sure. Russ Clark, guitar player in the '60's CR group, The Patriots.

Blessing and prayers from my heart to your family. We will all miss Louie very much. I knew him from the Mirror Lounge and dating Wes Schuetzle for eight years. Whenever I walked into the Mirror, Louie played Runaway or Malguenia for me and that was so very special. I also remember having dinners at Wes's and Louie taught me to love avocadoes. Thanks again, Louie. Karen Huerter

It was not only his fabulous guitar playing, but also his great showmanship and natural charisma that thrilled me the first time I saw and heard Louie play on stage. As a young drummer, I sat in with his band on occasion. He always had nice things to say about my playing. I really appreciated that. In 1979, I asked Louie to perform on my album 'That Drummer!' He was enthusiastic to be part of the project. He played guitar on two of the tracks included on the album and even showed me a couple of “studio tricks” with his guitar. I still have the final version from one of those little recordings in my personal library. “Louie, your legacy will live on in your music, within your family, and in all of us whom you have inspired. You’re a class act!”

Many blessings, to his family, as you move through this difficult time. Louie was one of a kind...his natural talent,(no one played Melaguania like Louie) humor and smile were not to be missed! From memories of the De Var as a kid to Louie and the Hi Lads in later years, he will always have a special place in my heart.

Louis, you were the greatest, I will never forget working with you and your smile. You were so much fun to play with and hang with. Always with a great story and a tip for an easier way to play something that I was making too hard. i treasure the days at Bullys on the river, I still have the tapes of you and Denny doing lessons in front of the green screen. I will treasure those. Sorry I have not been in contact over the years, but trust me I thought about you a lot and never forgot what you taught me. You will always be loved and always missed. Everytime I step on stage I will think about you and remember to play my block chords just like you taught me. I guess Denny will be playing Lucille now. He is the new master. deservingly so. Have a good trip, See you when the shows over here. Save me a spot on the bandstand. Love you louie...Micheal
