Obituary for Joseph Sydney Olson

Joseph Sydney Olson, 82, of Clermont, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont Iowa on Saturday, January 8 2011. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with the memorial service at 11:00 AM. Lunch will be served following the service. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family. Joseph was born on April 11, 1928, to Jesse and Helen (Paulson) Olson in Clermont IA. He attended and graduated from Clermont High School. He served as an army combat engineer during the Korean Conflict. On November 11, 1956 he was united in marriage to Gayle Nickels in Elgin, IA. He enjoyed farming, hunting, reading, and spending time with family and grandchildren. Joe is survived by his sons, Eric (Karen) of Des Moines IA and Robert Olson of Clermont IA, two granddaughters Alicia and Amy Olson of Des Moines IA. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a son, Samson, who died at birth.
