Irvin J. Tompkins
Irvin Tompkins, 78, of Solon, IA peacefully passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010, at the Solon Nursing and Care Center with family and friends near his side. A Memorial Gathering will be held Sunday August 8, 2010 from 2-4 PM at the VA Medical Center Iowa City in the Chapel.
Irvin Tompkins was the son of Verne Sr. and Janette Tompkins. He was born March 11, 1932 in Andalusia, IL. He is a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. Irvin loved anything that involved cars, especially antique cars. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, watching NASCAR races, Hawkeye football and basketball, but most of all enjoyed his time with family and friends.
Irvin is survived by daughters Debbie (Tim) Kakavas of North Liberty, Tamara (Jeff) Mowery of Rock Island, IL, and a son Mike (Diana) Zug of East Moline, IL. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Irvin is preceded in death by a daughter, Tina (Gary) Willet of Moline IL, his parents Verne and Janet, a sister Bev and a brother Verne Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be shared with the Solon Care Center, IC Hospice, Mercy Home Health Care and a Veterans fund.
