Delbert Ray Welcher

Delbert Ray Welcher was born May 18, 1932 and passed August 22, 2010 at the age of 78. He was born south of Thayer on a farm to Clarence A and Minnie (Fivecoat) Welcher. He went to Thayer and Afton school: Graduated from Afton High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. In 1956 he married Earla Jennings, they had 4 children and later divorced. In 1968 he married Naomi Boblett and they had 4 children. He worked for the B&N Railroad for 37 years as a signalmen, he retired from B&N Railroad in 1994. He is survived by his wife Naomi of Thayer. Three sisters: Jean Williamson of Creston, Rosetta Welcher of Glenwood, Jerri Ray of Orient. Two sister in laws: Beulah Welcher of Lockridge and Gaylene Welcher of Overland Park, Kansas. Four daughters: Denise husband Robert Rowe of Arispe, Dora husband Vern Atteberry of Creston, Deana, friend Les Vanderpluym of Thayer, Dorothy, friend Matt Feurstein of Weyauwega WI. Three sons: Danny, wife Judy Welcher of Lorimor, Dwayne of Kellerton and Dwight, wife Karla of Afton. 18 Grandchildren: Jacob Rowe, friend Alyssum Jones, Lacy Rowe, Angie Morgan, Lee, wife Beth Madison, Nicki & Anna Welcher, Brian, Casey & Cheyanne Welcher, Tabitha & Gregory Welcher, Zac Welcher & Harlette Feurstein, Jaxson, Jayden and Janessa Welcher, Gabriel & Zachary Welcher. 7 Great Grandchildren: Savannah Jones, Andrew & Nathaniel Rowe, Samantha & Wyatt Proffitt, Haylee Morgan, Lucas Welcher and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Father & Mother in-law: Shorty and Irene Boblett, 3 brothers: Jimmie Rex, Alvin & Raymond, 1 sister, Evenlyn Williams, 4 brother in-laws: Kenneth Ball, John Williamson, Don Ray & Ed Williams, 1 son: Dale Welcher. Memorials may be given to Greater Regional Hospice Home & Pleasant Valley Church. Memorial Gathering at Pleasant Valley Church south of Thayer will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 6-8pm. Memorial Services at Pleasant Valley Church on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 11 am By Rev. Dwayne Henrich. Military rites by John B. Parks Post #8882. Inurnment will be at a later date.
