Obituary for Lucille Rita Shimek

Lucille R. (Funke) Shimek, 83, Spillville, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Ossian Senior Hospice surrounded by her family. Lucille was the youngest daughter of Albert and Mary Funke, born August 31, 1926, in rural Calmar on the family farm. She was united in marriage 63 years ago to Jerome Shimek on October 29, 1946, at St. Francis De Sales Church, Ossian, IA. To this union, twelve children were born. A cherished wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Lucille loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed bird watching, jigsaw puzzles, gardening and her needlework. Lucille is survived by her husband, Jerome, her children, Francis (Noi) Shimek, Rosamond, CA; Barb (Leo) Massman, Waverly, IA; Ed (Julie) Shimek, Spillville, IA; Mary Lou (Don) Lensing, Decorah, IA; Judy (C.J.) Lensing, Decorah, IA; Ronnie (Connie) Shimek, Nora Springs, IA; Rick (Jenni) Shimek, Ossian, IA; Stan (Janean) Shimek, Calmar, IA; Mark Shimek, Spillville, IA; Gary (Chris) Shimek; Calmar, IA; Kenny (Cathy) Shimek; Ft. Atkinson, IA; her son-in-law, Leon Einck, Decorah, IA; 32 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Hagemen, Calmar, IA; her brother-in-law William (Jayne) Shimek, Calmar, IA; her sister-in-law¸ Lorraine (Vince) Williams, Kansas City, MO, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Nancy Einck (09/18/09); her grandson, Evan Shimek, two great-granchildren, Trevor Massman and Bria Sahr, her brothers-in-law, Carl Hageman and Arnie Shimek, her sister-in-law, Marian Bothmer, her niece, Clydene Miller and her nephew, Charles Hageman. Funeral services for Lucille were held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at St. Wenceslaus Church, Spillville, IA.)
