Cletus J. Hemmer

Cletus J. Hemmer, 79, of Guttenberg, died May 9, 2009 at his daughter''s home in Hiawatha following a short illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2009 at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Friends may call at the church after 10:00 AM on Saturday. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Raymond, Iowa. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Eastern – Central – Western Iowa. Surviving are his daughters Linda (Gary) Topping of Waterloo, Terri (Wayne) Eckley-Hofer of Hiawatha, Judy (Brad) Arenz of Hiawatha, and Sandra (Roland) Mills of Marion; sisters Teresa (Louis) Conrad of Raymond, and Edith Youngblut of Waterloo; a brother Gilbert (Fran) Hemmer of Wisconsin, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and his constant companion and loving friend Helene Lammers of Guttenberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and his wife Donna Mae. Cletus John Hemmer was born August 15, 1929 in Gilbertville the son of Joseph and Anna (Federspiel) Hemmer. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, honorably discharged in 1948. He was united in marriage to Donna Mae Conrad on November 14, 1949 in Waterloo, she preceded him in death. He was owner and operator of Clete and Donna''s Bar in Raymond for many years. He was both a Master Mason and Shriner, and very involved with his lodge. He greatly enjoyed time spent on the Mississippi River both boating and fishing with his entire family and friends. He was a loving father, grandfather and papa. He will be greatly missed by his family, but fondly remembered. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Mercy for their compassionate care, and request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations are made to Hospice of Mercy, 315 N. 18th Avenue, Hiawatha, Iowa 52233.
