Walter Wallace Shirk

Walter W. Shirk, 80, of Janesville, IA passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center. Per Walter''s wishes, his body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. at the Janesville United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the church preceding the service. Survivors include his wife Sue Shirk of Janesville; two sons, Thomas Shirk of Janesville, Ronald (Deb) Shirk of Port Byron, IL; daughter Cynthia (Lee) Touchberry of Colorado Springs, CO; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four brothers Robert and Gale Shirk both of Tucson, AZ; Lynn Shirk of Spring Branch, TX, and Dennis Shirk of Hampton, IA. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Pearl Shirk and a son, Kevin Paul Shirk. Walter Wallace Shirk was born April 4, 1929, in Richland County, WI to Leroy and Pearl (Wallace) Shirk. He married Sue Carolyn Shere on August 27, 1950, at the Janesville United Methodist Church. Walter worked for Janesville Feed Mill for 8 years, Johnnie''s Machine Shop for 2 years and for the Waterloo John Deere Tractor Works for 28 years before his retirement in August of 1987. Walter and Sue enjoyed traveling to Spain in 1973, Japan in 2000, and many other trips around the United States. He also enjoyed camping, eating out, gardening, lawn care, woodworking, reading and his family. Walter was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church, and past member of I.O.O.F, and the Masonic Lodge. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice or the Janesville United Methodist Church.
