Mary Louise Ohnemus

Mom: We were so lucky to have you for our mother, and yes, as you expressed in your final gift to your children, I will always remember that you loved me. You were our rock for so, so many years. And the love you gave us was equal. I will miss you with all my heart.

While I never had the chance to meet Mary Lou face-to-face, as a friend of her son Tom, I know how special she was and how much she will be missed.

I worked at the Indianola Public Library for many years and Mary Lou was one of my favorite patrons. I always gave her my personal copy of Vanity Fair magazine after I read it. When my subsciption expired, she subscribed and shared her copies with me. She was a good friend and I am sorry for your loss.

I am so thankful that God brought your daughter Jen your grandson Charlie into my life. You know there wasn't anything I wouldn't do for you and appreciate everything you have done for me, I couldn't begin to list them. Your were a wonderful Nana for Spenc and Bella and they miss you very much. We will never forget the chocolate doughnuts. I love you and will miss you. You are always in my thoughts, NOW WHAT BEAUTY? A Memory of Mary: Back in Indianola for a July visit with my parents, I was able to spend a wonderful half hour with Mary, whom I'd known mainly as “Tom’s mother.” She had just returned from a wheelchair walk around the Good Samaritan neighborhood, accompanied by a Hospice volunteer. Mary spoke of her illness openly and frankly, but mostly, she spoke of her family’s devotion, her appreciation for the Hospice staff, and the beauty of the day. Though her pain was visible, she reached beyond her pain, thoughtfully asking about my family and even commenting on my shoes! I knew then why my dear friend Tom loved his mother so deeply, and I felt fortunate to have been touched by her grace.

Nana: Remember when my dad (Tom) brought me to Indianola for a surprise visit? I was 16 and you hadn't seen me since I was a baby. The look on your face was priceless. I'm glad that were able to come to Alabama a few times and meet my family. We also enjoyed talking with you on the phone on those Saturdays we came to Huntsville to visit dad. We love you and will miss you. Shawn, April, Brooke, Annah, Shawn, Jr.
