Jack E. Dunbar, 80, of Davenport, IA passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Per Jacks wishes, his body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery on Thursday, July 23rd at 2:00 P.M. There will be a memorial gathering of friends and family following the services. Survivors include his wife Rose Marie; 4 daughters, Suzanne Troxel, Deborah (Mark) Turner, Sara (Gary) Schroeder and Rachel (Brian) Pool all of Davenport; a sister, Barbara Boland of Muscatine; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents. Jack Edward Dunbar was born May 23, 1929 in Newton, IA to Clarence and Nell McGlothlen Dunbar. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Rose Marie Menes on April 10, 1956 in Iowa City, IA. He worked as a Design Engineer for Bendix & Litton Corporation for many years. Jack was a member of several bowling leagues, the Illowa Chess Club and the Corn Belt Running Club. He enjoyed bowling, chess, gardening, fishing, woodworking, traveling, and, in earlier years, golfing and running. He participated in the Honolulu Marathon twice. Jack loved spending time with Rosie and his dog, Charlie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Smile Train-Dept. NPPR, PO Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090 or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
