Robert D. Schwob, 84, of Wapello, IA died Thursday, February 12, 2009 in his home following a sudden illness. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Wapello by Pastor Ramona Wink of the First United Presbyterian Church, Morning Sun. Inurnment will be held in Wapello Cemetery with military rites by Glen Allen V.F.W. Post #5166, Wapello. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is handling arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; Daughters, Penelope (Lloyd) Oberly of Mediapolis, Polly (Terry) Griffin of Burlington and Pam Schwob of Wapello; Brother, Richard Schwob of Wapello; Sister, Virginia Stone of Wapello. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Heather Hamilton of Burlington. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harlan, Tommy & Walter Schwob and sisters, Barbara Sheridan & Mary Archibald. Robert David Schwob was born May 24, 1924 in Wapello, IA the son of Henry & Hazel (Umphrey) Schwob. He served in the 506 FB Squadron of the Army Air Corp during WWII from 1942-1944 in the 404th Fighter Bomber Group. He married Rosemary Grooms on September 5, 1948 in Oakville, IA. Robert worked construction for 8 years and then the IAAT Plant in Burlington for 35 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Glen Allen V.F.W. Post #5166, Wapello, American Legion, Morning Sun, D.A.V., was an avid fisherman, wood cutter and gardener. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the Wapello Rescue Unit.
