Obituary for Richard Harold Birkes

Richard H. Birkes Jr., 72, of 3731 X Avenue in Belle Plaine died Tuesday February 10, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a long illness. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is assisting with the arrangements. Surviving Richard is his wife, Linda, five children from Richard and six children from Linda, and a sister, Sybil of Oregon. Also surviving are many grandchildren. Richard was very proud of a grandson, Ryan William, who currently is serving with the Marine Corps in Iraq and Afghanistan. His parents precede him in death. Richard Harold Birkes was born March 5, 1936 in La Harpe, KS to Richard and Lillian Birkes. He lived several years in Seattle, WA and later moved to Belle Plaine. He married Linda Riggle on February 29, 2000 in Branson, MO. He worked many years as a bank courier and security for banks the area.
