LaVerne Pries, 84, of Cedar Falls, IA passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Western Home Communities – Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. Per LaVerne''s wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo, IA. Survivors include his wife Maxine of Cedar Falls; seven sisters, Bernice (Howard) Hansen of Waterloo, Liz Fleming of Waterloo, Shirley Buck of Waterloo, Geri (Alta) Pries of Arizona, Fern (Sid) Miner of Chillicothe, MO, Dorothy Obidinski of Taylor, PA, and Gloria Kruger of Grundy Center, IA; sister-in-law LaVonne Pries of Waterloo; two brothers, Robert (Betty) Pries of Waterloo, and Ron (Shirley) Pries of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Elsie Pries; sisters Marlys Tangen and Eunice Pries; brothers Joseph Pries, Keith Pries, and Willie Kroblin; and nephews Terry Buck and Loyd Hansen. LaVerne was born July 23, 1924 in Waterloo, IA the son of Henry and Elsie (Kroblin) Pries. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy in WWII. He married Maxine Hansen on January 5, 1946 in Waterloo, IA. LaVerne was employed as a slice bacon for Rath Packing in Waterloo for 30 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Waterloo and enjoyed fishing, gardening, the outdoors, and working. Memorials may go to the church or to the family. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Western Home Communities – Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center 1st floor staff and employees for the great care.
