Floyd William Prescott, 99, of Washington, IA died of congestive heart failure Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his home. Floyd was born December 27, 1909 in Merna, Nebraska to Verde & William Prescott. Floyd was preceded in death by his beautiful bride of 77 years, Ona M Prescott in 2008; his mother & father Verde and William Prescott; two sisters Gladys Sickler and Imogene Baillie, two brothers Frank and Virgil Prescott all of Broken Bow, NE and by his son-in-law Raymond Watson Jr. Floyd is survived by his beloved children; Dona Watson, Joan & husband Gerald Hoyle, Rodney Prescott, Janet & husband George Janecek, and Judy & husband Wayne Janecek. Hospice care made his passing a dignified event for all people involved in accordance with his wishes. Floyd and Ona M Robertson were married September, 10 1930 in Broken Bow, NE and lived in Nebraska until 1950 when they moved the family to Washington, IA to operate a dry cleaning business on the south side of the city square. The well-matched couple then lived in Greely, CO, Boulder, CO, and Westminster, CO before returning to Washington, IA in 1975 to retire. All of Floyd and Ona''s 5 children lived within ten miles of the Prescott homestead. Floyd also had many friends in Washington County and across the West and Midwest. His kindness, his pragmatism, and his famous tenacity will be missed by all. A Celebration of Life service will be held March, 1 2009 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM at Dona Watson''s residence 521 West Monroe Washington, IA. In lieu of flowers and gifts, family members request any memorial donations are made to the Hospice of Washington County in appreciation. The Prescott family would like to take this opportunity thank all of the doctors and staff at the Washington County Hospitals and Clinics, Mercy Family Medicine of Washington, Hospice of Washington County, Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, and all personnel of the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa for their skilled and loving care of our patriarch. Floyd touched the lives of young and old alike maintaining his steady faith in the Lord, and practicing his devotion to daily Christianity was an inspiration to many. Thank you, Floyd for sharing your life, your time, your talent, and your wisdom with all of us.
