Conrad L. Fox, 87, of Decorah passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Gundersen Luther Medical Center in La Crossse, WI. Per Conrad’s wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Decorah First United Methodist Church. Visitation on Friday will be from 9:30 AM till the time of service at the church. Survivors include his wife Betty of Decorah; son Jerry (Trudy) Fox of Stillwater, MN; two granddaughters Gretchen (Corbin) Schempp of Decorah, and Heidi (Joe) Thompson of Stillwater, MN; and three great grandchildren Stone, Ivy, and Eve Thompson all of Stillwater, MN. Conrad was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Pearl Fox; three sons James, Gary, and Jay Fox; and a sister Irene Rima. Conrad Lee Fox was born January 18, 1922 near Burr Oak, IA to Lee and Pearl (Gremm) Fox. He married Betty Franklin on November 29, 1945 in Lanesboro, MN. Conrad was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in WWII. He served aboard the WWII Submarine USS Drum SS-228 from 1942-1945 and made 8 war patrols. He was Chief Engineer at Luther College for 25 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Decorah First United Methodist Church, life member of the U.S. WWII Submarine Veterans, and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
