Robert Dale Clausen

Robert D. Clausen, 85, of West Union, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 1 p.m. with visitation at noon at Zion Lutheran Church, 130 S. Washington, West Union, Iowa. Internment will be at West Union Cemetery. Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma; 4 children: Lynne (Steve) Eberlein of Maple Grove, MN; Neal (Ann) Clausen of Blooming Prairie, MN; James (Amy) Clausen of West Union, IA; and Julie (Ron Peters) Clausen of Prior Lake, MN; 7 grandchildren: Sean Griffin of Brooklyn, NY; Christopher and Michael Griffin, both of Lansing, MI; Amanda Clausen of Washington, DC; Trenton Clausen, Madison Clausen, and Dalton Wenthe all of West Union; and 1 brother-in-law, DuWayne Madson of Butterfield, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lucille Gatzlaff and Luann Madson and one brother, Verle Clausen. Robert Dale Clausen was born on May 4, 1923 in Comfrey, Minnesota to Charles and Hazel Williams Clausen. After graduating from high school in Comfrey, he enlisted in the Army and was in the 8th Army Air Force, 232nd AAF Bomber Unit during WWII. Robert married Wilma Seavert on January 18, 1948 in Comfrey, Minnesota. He owned and operated a Super Valu Store in Comfrey for 15 years. He also owned and operated a Gambles Hardware Store in Luverne, Minnesota for 5 years as well as worked as an installer for Northco Equipment for 3 years. Robert enjoyed being Plant Manager at Heying Foods in West Union for 15 years. After retirement, he worked at Pharmaceutical Innovators. He loved wood working and playing golf. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey, Minnesota and was secretary of that church for 23 years. While in Comfrey, he was a member of the American Legion and a volunteer fireman for 20 years. He was also on the Zion Lutheran Council in West Union.
