R. C. Porter

R.C. Porter, of Washington, IA, died September 1, 2008 at the age of 81. At his request, he is to be cremated and no services are to be held. His ashes are to be spread over the site of his birthplace on the Porter Ranch. He was born on March 16, 1927, the first of five children to Cecil and Thelma Akers Porter in the Claud Community in Curry County, NM. He attended grade school at Claud, NM and graduated from high school at Pleasant Hill, NM. He was drafted into the army during World War II and saw duty in an infantry division in the European Theatre in France, Belgium, and Germany. R.C. had four children; Earnest Gary Porter, Doyle Dewayne Porter, Chris Elaine Porter and Angelia Evon Porter. He was active in farming and ranching most of his lifetime. He owned or operated ranches in New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, and Missouri. He also spent several years as an independent land man for oil and gas companies, working in thirteen different states. R.C. is survived by his wife, Doris Culver Porter; children, Ernie Porter and Chris E Marin of Logan, NM, and Doyle Porter of Clovis, NM; six grandchildren, Justin Porter, Jensen Porter, Candace Detar, Kimberly Bender, Kelleigh Porter, and Carla Kugler; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert and Jack Porter of Clovis, NM. He is also survived by two step children, Barbara Culver and Tom Culver; three step grandchildren; and two step great-grandsons all of Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angelia Evon Porter; and two sisters, Juanita Ray and Wanda Faye Wayland.
