James K. Schmidt

James K Schmidt, 70, of Charles City, IA passed away Thursday October 2, 2008 at the Floyd County Medical Center. Per his wishes, James was cremated. A memorial service will be held on (date and time) at (location). The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is assisting with arrangements. James was born on July 4, 1938 to Fred and Naomi (Scoles) Schmidt. He was educated in the Charles City school system and graduated with a degree in English from the University of Iowa. James served in the US Navy for 4 years. James enjoyed biking and hiking. He was a world traveler, and his journeys took him to Africa, Europe and Tibet, in addition to all 50 United States. James was a Buddhist monk for 15 years. Survivors include six sisters, Alice King of Waukesh, WI, Lois Hoy of Hayward, WI, Betty (Quentin) Meyer of New Haven, IA, Ruth Beeman of Mira Loma, CA, Pat Cross of Charles City, IA, and Peggy (Larry) Kay of Charles City, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding James in death were his parents; brothers Paul and Carl Schmidt; and sisters Lucile Schmidt, Elsie McCague and Darlene Kapping.
